Isaiah 41:10
"Fear thou not, for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."
Psalms 56: 3
"What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee."
This spring and summer I have watch as my front porch became home to a pair of Finches. To date they have raised two clutches of eggs. The first clutch were laid and hatched during some of the rainiest days, 20 days to be exact. So from my front door I watched as these eggs were laid and hatched. I watched as they were fed and grew; from bald, to downy, to feathers. Each day they grew stronger and before long the 6 little dibs out grew their nest. Their comfort zone.
Early one morning I noticed the 6 little birds lined around the nest and on the ledge that held it. Little by little they would inch out. Then... one was gone... then another... then... until all were gone but one.
For two days that little dib sat alone in the nest, venturing to the edge, then going back. As I watched it dawned on me... This baby might be afraid.
I left to run a few errands in town still thinking about the possibility that the baby dib was afraid to fly. I wondered if it was hungry. I hadn't seen the Mom & Dad since the babies had begun to fly out of the nest. Lots of things crossed my mind.
As I neared home, dark storm clouds began to form and the wind was blowing. Rain began to fall as I stepped gingerly onto the porch. Sure enough, there sat the baby bird on the edge of the nest. "Surely, it cant be about to fly now, Lord." Of all the times to try it's wings, why now? ITS FACING A STORM! As thunder shook the ground, that precious baby bird lowered it's head to the wind and soared into the storm... FEARLESS!
God met him in that storm and carried him safely to the branch of a nearby tree, safe and sound.
Friend, when God puts you to the test... Fear not!
